The Shima iPhone 5 Cases (¥2,600Prices are approximate only and subject to change.
White Rabbit Express service fee and other costs not included.), designed by artist Takeshi Shima, are covers for your iPhone inspired by found objects in old warehouses and weathered items from antique shops.
Yokohama-born Takashi Shima studied initially mechanical engineering at the Iwate University but dropped out to become a designer and an art director. Shima’s creations turn the über-minimal surfaces of the iPhone into battered, rusted homages to old machinery and run-down buildings.
For this series he used images of dark red iron oxide, a material which, in reality, is so corrosive and destructive it can eat through metal. The second case is designed to resemble black rust, which on the other hand, is protective and sealing. Perhaps the most striking design of this series is the Shima Meter case, depicting an antique meter display.
These designs are printed on ultra-hard polycarbonate, ironically providing excellent protection for your now battered looking iPhone 5.
