The sleek, wand-shaped portable tooth brushes Panasonic Pocket Doltz Sonic Toothbrushes expanded their series with the Panasonic Pocket Doltz Sonic EW-DS15. The new models offer 16,000 oscillations per minute (the Oral B Professional Care 3000 offers in comparison 8,800 oscillations/m) and a tongue cleaner on the back of the tooth brush.
In recent years many oral hygiene devices are adding tongue cleaning functions because the bacterial build-up, food debris, fungi, and dead cells on the surface of the tongue are related to many common oral care and general health problems. In addition, decaying bacteria produce volatile sulphur compounds on the rear of the tongue; these molecules account for 80 to 95 percent of all cases of halitosis (bad breath). Ayurveda, the practice of traditional Indian medicine, recommends tongue cleaning as part of one’s daily hygiene regimen, to remove the toxic debris, known as Ama.
One of the consistent design features of the Panasonic Pocket Doltz Sonic EW-DS15 is also the conscious resemblance to a beauty tool: apparently in Japan it’s embarrassing to carry a portable tooth brush in your purse, which is why all models of the Panasonic Doltz series are designed like mascaras, who knew?
Additionally, carrying portable tooth brushes hasn’t been a traditional habit of Japanese office workers until recently and Panasonic had to find an esthetically pleasing design for their devices in order to attract the target market. Panasonic also offers Doltz tooth brushes in more manly designs (see the EW-DS25) but the majority is held in pastel-colours. The EW-DS15 is also decidedly more playful and sparkly than the previous models.
