Panasonic has introduced their Gorilla Eye portable car navigation system (CN-GP737VD) (￥93,000Prices are approximate only and subject to change.
White Rabbit Express service fee and other costs not included.), which is capable of filming the scenery while driving along a chosen route. Five new models of the “Gorilla” system will be released beginning in September this year, with the “Gorilla Eye” model due out in the beginning of December.
Panasonic’s car navigations systems are market leaders in Japan due to their advanced accuracy, easy-to-read maps and usability. By March 2013 400 million units were sold.
The new Gorilla navigation system features an automatic starter system when the engine is started. The GPS boasts “triple precision” allowing accurate positioning in difficult places such as under city buildings or mountain areas, utilising their collaboration with a satellite positioning system employed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency of Japan (JAXA).
Additionally the new system features a camera, with which the user can record the drive and subsequently save to a Micro SD memory card. The capacity of the recording function is 16GB SSD and videos can be saved to a Micro SD memory card.
The MicroSDHC memory card comes with 8GB, about two hours high quality mode (1280 × 720). It is possible to record about 14 hours standard mode (640 × 320). Important videos can also be saved on the microSDHC memory card on a specifically dedicated location, so they won’t be overwritten.
Recorded videos can be played on a PC or directly on the navigation screen.
The screen is a high-definition 7V type wide VGA LCD display (all models), with a resolution about three times higher than usual LCD displays, capable of displaying extremely small graphics and fonts.
