As the Ghost in the Shell franchise propels forward into the future with a 2017 live-action remake, it reaches back to Japanese historical traditions with Ghost in the Shell Aizurie Art.
Drawn by celebrated animator Hiroyuki Okiura, the original artwork shows protagonist Major Motoko Kusanagi wired in, charging up for business. It’s done in the aizuri style of ukiyoe woodblock printing with its stunning shades of indigo blue accented by only the red lips of The Major – a common feature of Tokugawa era prints.
The artwork is printed on fine washi paper specially made by craftsman and Living National Treasure Ichibei Iwano, and is framed in a handcarved wood.
Tenugui towels are also available. Pre-order now. Ships in December.
